~Mirror Makeover~

I just found out about the surprise party over at  The DIY Showoff, so I decided to join in.  Who doesn't like a party and suprises?

I posted this a while back, but I like parties and surprises, so I thought I would share again!!!

Who just doesn't love spray paint?  I for one love, love, love it!!!  Let's see what I got myself into!!!

My wonderful hubby took the mirror down from over our fireplace, so I don't have a before photo over the fireplace.

1980's mirror!

See the Metallic gold?  It was nice back in the 80's, but it just didn't work for me in 2009.
So I decided to paint this lovely mirror!

I put my newspaper over the mirror part, as not to ruin the mirror!

I used Valspar primer and black gloss paint!

Here's a shot with the primer on it!

It took me 3 coats of black gloss to get the black nice and even.

What do you think?  I think it looks so much better over our fireplace.

Please go and visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for other partipcants.

Isn't it amazing how a little TLC can change something so much.

The black looks much better I think.
Have you thought of turning the mirror sideways? Just a thought.

Nice job. I just completed a spray paint project, to be shared soon. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Made a blister on my index finger though. I was painting five different items with primer and then paint over a two day period. Guess it just means I need to work on building up some tougher skin. LOL

Great transformation! The black looks so much better than the gold.

I love spray paint too, especially gloss black! I've made some old ornate mirrors and frames look very modern! Good work!

Lori,
Mirrors can be costly, and this was a good way to update the look without busting the piggy bank! Spray paint it one of my best friends, nicely done.

Amazing the difference a bit of spray paint can make. So much easier (and less expensive) than having the mirror reframed (do NOT tell DH I said that lol). It looks great and so much more up to date. We have a humongous gold framed mirror in our entry that I've been trying to get rid of for years, this gives me the inspiration to just do it! Kathy
